The Swallow and the Other Birds

The Swallow and the

Different Birds

An Aesop's Fable

It happened that a Countryman was sowing some hemp seeds in a field where a Swallow and some different fowls were jumping about getting their nourishment. "Be careful with that man," quoth the Swallow. "Why, what's going on with he?" said the others. "That is hemp seed he is sowing; be mindful so as to get each one of the seeds, or else you will apologize it." The feathered creatures paid no notice to the Swallow's words, and eventually the hemp grew up and was made into rope, and of the ropes nets were made, and numerous a fledgling that had scorned the Swallow's recommendation was gotten in nets made out of that very hemp. "What did I let you know?" said the Swallow.
